Fenerbahçe’s head coach José Mourinho could not hold back tears during a press conference ahead of the Champions League third qualifying round match against Feyenoord.
The reason for his tears was the sudden death of 54-year-old former footballer Jorge Costa. Costa was one of the key figures in the “Porto” team with which Mourinho achieved great success as head coach. He was also the captain of the team during their sensational Champions League victory in 2004.
Jorge Costa passed away yesterday at the age of 53 from a sudden heart attack. While answering journalists’ questions about Costa, Mourinho grew emotional and said, “A part of my history is gone,” remembering him fondly.
